Sinus & Nasal Surgery
Sinus and nasal surgery is performed to enlarge the openings that drain the sinuses to effectively treat conditions such as:
- Nasal congestion
- Rhinitis
- Sinusitis
- Nasal polyps
- Other chronic nasal and sinus conditions
Patients may turn to surgery after other treatments—such as medications, nasal sprays, and humidifiers—have been unsuccessful, or in cases of chronic, recurring symptoms.
Common Symptoms of Sinus Problems
Symptoms vary depending on the type and severity of the condition, but often include:
- Facial pain and pressure
- Mucous discharge
- Nasal obstruction
- Fever
- Headache
- Congestion
- Vision disturbances
Most sinus and nasal surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis under general or local anesthesia. Patients may experience mild bruising, swelling, and discomfort after surgery but typically recover quickly with no lasting side effects.

Balloon Sinuplasty
Balloon sinuplasty is an advanced surgical procedure used to treat sinusitis and related problems through minimally invasive techniques.
Procedure Overview:
- A thin endoscope is inserted into the nose
- A small balloon is gently inflated to widen blocked sinus passageways
- Sinus fluid drains properly without disruption to the surrounding bone and tissue
Benefits:
- Less bleeding
- Shorter recovery times
Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
Endoscopic sinus surgery involves using a thin, lighted tube with a camera inserted into the nose to examine and access the sinuses.
Procedure Overview:
- Tiny surgical instruments are inserted through the nostrils
- No incisions required
Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS):
FESS is the most common type of chronic sinusitis surgery. It is performed with a small endoscope inserted through the nostril.
Benefits of FESS:
- Shorter recovery time
- Reduced infection risk
- Less postoperative pain
- Minimal scarring
Image-Guided Sinus Surgery
Image-guided surgery combines endoscopic techniques with a real-time CT imaging scan for precision treatment of sinus and nasal blockages.
Features:
- CT scan provides real-time guidance during surgery
- Creates a computerized model of the skull
- Allows accurate navigation to blocked or infected areas
Benefits:
- Faster recovery
- Less discomfort
- Greater accuracy
